Indoor Champs – Snow Factor

Last month we traveled to Glasgow for a couple days to compete in the Scottish Indoor Champs. Luckily we stopped at Bearsden to get some practice in on the Friday night! We had a great session with Matt Corry and McCormick brother’s Matt and Chris and I managed to learn proper BS handplants in the Quarter Pipe which I was stoked on! Such a fun trick and amped to finally get them stomped.

Saturday we headed through to Braehead, Snow Factor for the contest. Due to a problem with the Cat the park crew had to shape the whole park by hand and they did a great job, considering. Our favorite feature had to be the Down Donkey kink rail at the top. Had a few ideas and was able to land a new trick, Hardway Cab 180, 50-50, Fs 360 out. Gus was killing it with BS 3 and Fs 3 out of the top rail everytime and big Fs 3s on the kicker, unfortunately he couldn’t put a run down and didn’t make it to finals.

I qualified with a solid run including my new trick, and I planned to repeat it for the finals. I landed a good run but it wasn’t the one I wanted, the local boys killed it and I finished up in 4th Overall which was bit disappointing but we had a great day shredding with the Glasgow lads.

All in all a fun trip, looking forward to having another go next year!

Meribel DC Park – Our Thoughts

This season I spent my time shredding the Meribel park with the Parklife Crew!

Here are our thoughts on the park!

The DC Area 43 Meribel-Mottaret Park has been getting better and better. With the addition of a new monster wedge and a load of new exciting rail features, the park is really worth checking out, with areas for all levels of riding.

There is a newly shaped super-pipe, a pro-line of kickers and rails all in one chairlift. It’s perfect for training and allows you to develop all areas of your riding. Being only two lifts from Courchevel Family Park, it’s an easy alternative, as travelling to train in Val Thorens takes up a good part of the day.  The new kicker has plenty of airtime and a super smooth take-off and we can’t wait to get back overthere to get some new tricks down.

We have been spending a lot of time in Meribel focusing on our second Parklife episode, we have gathered loads of awesome footage.  Recently we’ve been filming with a pole and it’s been sick for follow cams!  Really stoked with how it came out and will definitely be using the pole more to produce some awesome edits.

Brits 2013 – Slopestyle

Unfortunately the weather was terrible all week, with heavy snow and low visibility. However that didn’t stop us riding and with an adapted course we dropped in for slope-style practice. The course consisted a single kicker and four different rail options. The weather was limiting everyone’s performance so putting a run down was the only thing on everyone’s mind. I was lucky enough to put down a bs 7 and bs 9 in the qualifiers sending me through to the finals. Shack also stuck a bs 7 melon and joined me in the finals.

In finals practice I over shot the kicker on a Cab 7 Nose and ended up busting my leg. I sat out for the rest of practice and watch the women compete. I made my way to the top of the course, waiting to drop. I managed to put down a bs 9 not as clean as I would have liked and put together an solid run.

I tried for the Cab 7 again to try and push myself into medal contention, I went far too deep on the landing and was unable to hold it. I finished up 2nd in Youth men which I was stoked on and grabbed 5th place overall. Considering my injury I was happy to get some good results, hopefully next year I will be injury free and able to perform to the best of my ability. Everyone throw down even in the poor conditions which was great to see!

Brits 2013 – Bangers & Cash

Tignes, France was set to be the new destination for the Brits, and it didn’t disappoint! The new Bangers & Cash Rail Jam lived up to it’s expectations and it was an amazing event. The Rail Garden set-up was awesome and with the competition broken down into three stages in which riders could qualify for the finals, allowed riders the chance to show the skills on a number of different features.

I was lucky enough to make through on the first stage with a half-cab to frontflip out of the cannon rail, half-cab to bs 3 and a fs 270 gap on the double kink box. I was really happy with my riding and it gave me the chance to plan out my tricks for the finals.

The finals came round soon enough and I was excited to get going. My leg injury had been playing up which caused a few problems but I carried on regardless. I had a few ideas for the wallride feature and I was stoked to get a chuck flip into the wallride and was so close to my cab underflip. The level was insane! Nuddsy, George Scott and Lewis Sonvico were killing it with inovative tricks and massive gaps.

In the end Andy Nudds took the win with a ridiculous combo, wallride 270 to the down box 270 off. I was super stoked to take 3rd place and come away with a medal. It was a great start to the Brits and everyone was stoked on the event. Hopefully see more of the same event next year.

Face Shots!

Check out this powder run from Meribel, deepest powder I have ever ridden!

Stoked on how the iON Air Pro caught all the footage! Such a fun run, every turn was a face shot. Stoked to get back out to Courch at the end of week, will be great to catch up with the lads again, and get shredding!

Meribel Going Off!

Shaped this hit in the DC Meribel Park and got some sick footage!

Shaped this hit in the DC Meribel Park and got some sick footage!

Past week has been sick here in the 3 Vallees! DC Meribel Park has been going off, with a load of new rails and jumps, the park is really worth a visit and we’re all looking forward to the GB Team Pre-Brits Camp coming up in March. So far we’ve managed to get a lot of good footage with Ollie’s pole and the iON camera! It was great for follow-cams and helped to steady out the film, Edit 2 of the Parklife Series is going to be a banger!

We have all been learning lots of new tricks and today I was stoked to learn cab 900′s! I gave cab 10 a rip and managed to get it to my feet but unfortunately skidded out. A load of different variations of spins, funky grabs and got awesome clips for my segment of episode 2.

I am looking forward to some more jump time before heading home for a few days and then  flying off to Istanbul for the World Juniors!

DC Park is complete!

Stoked on the past few days cruising the DC Park in Meribel! Now with a shaped super-pipe, rails and kickers it’s perfect for us to train on working on all areas of our performance! Felt really nice to be back in pipe and build my confidence back up with some small airs and a few 3s. Got some good filming as well for our next episode and even bomb dropped my first chairlift! Landed a good few frontside 900′s on the smaller jump and Henry stomped a cab 9 as well on film. Hopefully going to make the trip over to Mayrhofen at the end of the week for some air time on the pro line before we head to World Junior Champs on the 3rd March.
