So stoked that Vans Comp was back for another year on Cairngorm Mountain!
This year a new series of competition, the Vans Hi-Standard Series, traveled to three resorts, Les Arcs, Mayrhofen and finally Cairngorm Mountain. The focus was on style, winning cash spot prizes for every trick the judges liked. This was a great to run the comp and I have to say that it was the best format I’ve seen in a long while. Every rider came away with something and the fun, progressive vibe meant everybody could relax and enjoy the event.
Shack came over the week and spent a good few days shredding Cairngorm, it was great to show him about and I think he was stoked on his first snowboard trip to Scotland! He killed it all day and went home £140 richer! Angus was stoked on his tricks getting a really nice BS 540 indy, it was great to see him ride well as I hadn’t been around much to ride with him last season. Andrew as well, throwing Fs 540 Tuck Knees! Insane Tweak! I was stoked to get n awesome shot of a new trick, FS 3 Chicken Salad.
The jump was perfect, by far one of the best kickers we have had on Cairngorm! Not huge, but an ideal wedge with good airtime and a nice steep landing, European standard! The rail set-up was amazing and the way the comp separated into two jam sessions allowed for rail shredders to show their worth to judges. The emphasis being on style and creativity was a totally new thing for me, I have never competed like that as most comps are on difficulty and cleanliness. Awesome experience and defiantly helped to improve my riding!
All in all it was the perfect way to finish the season!
I had a great weekend with the Vans UK Team filming with Carter and taking part in the comp. Thanks to Chris and Janine for there support and I can’t wait for next season!

This season I spent my time shredding the Meribel park with the Parklife Crew!
Here are our thoughts on the park!
The DC Area 43 Meribel-Mottaret Park has been getting better and better. With the addition of a new monster wedge and a load of new exciting rail features, the park is really worth checking out, with areas for all levels of riding.

There is a newly shaped super-pipe, a pro-line of kickers and rails all in one chairlift. It’s perfect for training and allows you to develop all areas of your riding. Being only two lifts from Courchevel Family Park, it’s an easy alternative, as travelling to train in Val Thorens takes up a good part of the day. The new kicker has plenty of airtime and a super smooth take-off and we can’t wait to get back overthere to get some new tricks down.

We have been spending a lot of time in Meribel focusing on our second Parklife episode, we have gathered loads of awesome footage. Recently we’ve been filming with a pole and it’s been sick for follow cams! Really stoked with how it came out and will definitely be using the pole more to produce some awesome edits.
“The BOSS is to the EVIL TWIN what the GLOBAL WARMER was to the AIROBIC: A GTI version featuring turbo ingredients!”

This board literally is the BOSS. Versatile and playful board, the soft-mid flex is forgiving for rails and jibbing on the piste, while the responsive core and twin TBT allows you to charge the pipe and fly-off any size of jump, with control and ease. Additional carbon has been positioned beneath the bindings to give pop and stability for pressing on rails and stomping those landings. I found this board to be amazing in all areas of my riding and it performed just as well in powder as it did in the park. The shaping of the nose and tail helps cut through the powder and helps you spin faster. This board is so fun to ride, it withstands the rocks and heather of the Cairngorms and helps you lock in that edge when you’re jibbing over fences and going deep on the kickers. The graphic is awesome and definitely one of the sickest looking Bataleon boards for next season and when it is available, you will be able to find it in your local TSA Store!
“Bataleon have given this board 10/10 for freestyle, and I can’t agree more! It’s a supercharged-beast, the ultimate all-round freestyle board.”
Unfortunately the weather was terrible all week, with heavy snow and low visibility. However that didn’t stop us riding and with an adapted course we dropped in for slope-style practice. The course consisted a single kicker and four different rail options. The weather was limiting everyone’s performance so putting a run down was the only thing on everyone’s mind. I was lucky enough to put down a bs 7 and bs 9 in the qualifiers sending me through to the finals. Shack also stuck a bs 7 melon and joined me in the finals.
In finals practice I over shot the kicker on a Cab 7 Nose and ended up busting my leg. I sat out for the rest of practice and watch the women compete. I made my way to the top of the course, waiting to drop. I managed to put down a bs 9 not as clean as I would have liked and put together an solid run.
I tried for the Cab 7 again to try and push myself into medal contention, I went far too deep on the landing and was unable to hold it. I finished up 2nd in Youth men which I was stoked on and grabbed 5th place overall. Considering my injury I was happy to get some good results, hopefully next year I will be injury free and able to perform to the best of my ability. Everyone throw down even in the poor conditions which was great to see!
Tignes, France was set to be the new destination for the Brits, and it didn’t disappoint! The new Bangers & Cash Rail Jam lived up to it’s expectations and it was an amazing event. The Rail Garden set-up was awesome and with the competition broken down into three stages in which riders could qualify for the finals, allowed riders the chance to show the skills on a number of different features.
I was lucky enough to make through on the first stage with a half-cab to frontflip out of the cannon rail, half-cab to bs 3 and a fs 270 gap on the double kink box. I was really happy with my riding and it gave me the chance to plan out my tricks for the finals.
The finals came round soon enough and I was excited to get going. My leg injury had been playing up which caused a few problems but I carried on regardless. I had a few ideas for the wallride feature and I was stoked to get a chuck flip into the wallride and was so close to my cab underflip. The level was insane! Nuddsy, George Scott and Lewis Sonvico were killing it with inovative tricks and massive gaps.
In the end Andy Nudds took the win with a ridiculous combo, wallride 270 to the down box 270 off. I was super stoked to take 3rd place and come away with a medal. It was a great start to the Brits and everyone was stoked on the event. Hopefully see more of the same event next year.

An edit someone made from the comp!
So last Saturday the Vans Hi Standard Series Comp went off on Cairngorm. It was a new jam format with cash spot prizes for sick tricks. I think everyone preferred the new format as it was more relaxed and informal and relived alot of pressure. Everyone was throwing down in the jam sessions on the kicker and rails. In the end Danny McCormick won the overall title and Dragon “Best BS 180″ comp! I was really happy with my performance, I managed to stomp a BS 5 indy and almost got a fs 7 tail and the a fs 270 switch up on the down flat down.
