So today I had the Scottish Freestyle Championships on Cainrgorm, after my Art prelim finished on Friday I went up the hill and shaped the park in the cat with Adam, Ed and Lauren. We had to rebuild the second knuckle and the first jump and after a few test runs were all good to go! On Saturday I went up at about half 8 and got the surface lifts to the top as it was quite busy on the train. After registration I headed out to the park which was nicely groomed and looking sick! In practice I did back to back 3s on the jumps and warmed up on the rails, in quailies I bailed on a bs 3 off the flat pole but managed to get a boardslide 270 on the first box, a bs 3 out the pole then a fs 3 off the toes on the first jump and a bs 3 on the second jump! The top 8 advanced to the finals which was a 2 run format instead of a jam which I would’ve preffered but we didn’t have enough time. In the finals I did the same run as before but a fs 7 off the first jump although I sat down on the landing. On my 2nd run I bailed at the start pretty hard and hurt my back and pelvis but managed to finish in 2nd in the mens behind Mark Ruperalia which I was stoked on as the level was quite high!
Neil MacGrain sent me through a few shots from Flachau that he got……please do not use them without contacting me or Neil first! Thanks
Shaped this hit in the DC Meribel Park and got some sick footage!
Past week has been sick here in the 3 Vallees! DC Meribel Park has been going off, with a load of new rails and jumps, the park is really worth a visit and we’re all looking forward to the GB Team Pre-Brits Camp coming up in March. So far we’ve managed to get a lot of good footage with Ollie’s pole and the iON camera! It was great for follow-cams and helped to steady out the film, Edit 2 of the Parklife Series is going to be a banger!
We have all been learning lots of new tricks and today I was stoked to learn cab 900′s! I gave cab 10 a rip and managed to get it to my feet but unfortunately skidded out. A load of different variations of spins, funky grabs and got awesome clips for my segment of episode 2.
I am looking forward to some more jump time before heading home for a few days and then flying off to Istanbul for the World Juniors!
Stoked on the past few days cruising the DC Park in Meribel! Now with a shaped super-pipe, rails and kickers it’s perfect for us to train on working on all areas of our performance! Felt really nice to be back in pipe and build my confidence back up with some small airs and a few 3s. Got some good filming as well for our next episode and even bomb dropped my first chairlift! Landed a good few frontside 900′s on the smaller jump and Henry stomped a cab 9 as well on film. Hopefully going to make the trip over to Mayrhofen at the end of the week for some air time on the pro line before we head to World Junior Champs on the 3rd March.
So yesterday I arrived back home after 28 hours in a van with the Scottish Freeski and GB Junior Snowboard Teams. We drove out from Glasgow on the friday morning last week. The place we were staying was a small town called Altenmarket about 15mins from Zaucchensee and The Absolut Park! The first 2 days it snowed non stop so we went to Zaucchensee and did Gondola laps from top to bottom in the powder which was by far the most insane depth of snow i’ve ever been in! We found a small windlip that we all did backflips on then found a run of untracked fresh powder which was amazing!
Later on we went to the top of the mountain and went down to the other valley where Flachau was. To get to the park we got in a really cool tractor with two big carriges attched that to us too the chairlift. It was then two chairs up to the park then one main park chair and a powder chair for the “Stash”. The Stash was sick! We found a load of lines and cliffs that you could send off, we mainly felll because the snow was soo deep!
On the 4th day they opened two of the jumps as they were shaping the rest, they were between 40 and 50ft. We laped them all day aswell as the rails which were wicked and did a bit of filming. I managed to get a bs 3 on the 3rd one which was the biggest i’ve ever span!
We rode some more powder on the Thursday and found a really sick cliff in the “Stash” as it had snowed more over night. The Thirtytwo Global Team were doing a demo in the park during there tour and we saw them hitting this nice windlip! We went down and hit it, I did one of my biggest backflips and was so stoked because they gave me props for it ! The rest of that day we filmed rails and hit a little corness which I managed to get a cab 5 off, then did some frontflips off the cat track.
The last day was Bluebird! all the jumps were open and they had rebuilt the last one which was anout 70ft! I was the second one in our group to hit it but I knuckled quite bad! On my third try and went a bit too fast and got spat out of it then did half a backflip and turnded 90 degrees and landed on the bottom of the landing on my back and hit my head. I just filmed the others the rest of that day as I didint want to risk getting properly hurt.
We had some pizza from the resteraunte below our apartments delivered to our rooms on the last night and then packed and went to bed to get a good nights rest for the massive journey home!
The best powder I have ever ridden! Two epic days shredding with Henry, Ollie and the Pleisure Holidays staff, showing us all the best spots!
Footage and photos so will make sure to post them up! It stayed really cold today which made the powder fluffy and light so much fun, totally got me stoked on snowboarding!
Hoping for sun tomorrow and maybe some park…planning on a week or two in Hoff before World Juniors in March so will keep the blog updated with our plans!
Past two days have been epic! The rain turned to snow and it has been snowing for a day or two! Had some awesome tree runs and found some small shutes! Got loads of footage and loads of bails so we are planning on putting a wee edit together for the Parklife Series! Make sure you check out the Facebook page and Twitter page for updates!
Website is nearly done and once it’s finished the first episode will be released!
Planning on a trip to Flachauwinkl to train with Kinnear and Matt for 5 days on 9th. Hopefully we will get the chance to learn some new doubles and ride the kicker line over there. Looking forward to it!
